In 2002 I had the good fortune to have several meetings in a concert/darshan setting with the American-born spiritual master, Adi Da (formerly known as Da Free John). At the second occasion I had the honor as well to play as one of the musicians for him. Adi Da is a prolific and brilliant artist as well as a radical and ground-breaking spiritual master. He works with cameras to make some of the most powerfully transformational photographic art I have ever seen. His work can be seen here, but there is no way to convey its impact over the internet, it really must be experienced "live".
At that time, Adi Da was beginning to work with underwater photography, and this inspired me to create some music using the sounds of water as the basis for it. I made an entire album of pieces in this way. I manipulated the water sounds in many ways in the computer, and added some other electronic textures as well.
Some of these pieces are completely abstract, no tonal center, no melody, no pulse. Others are more ambient groove. On all of them I wanted to use the fractal nature of the water sounds to help create an unpredictable and ever-changing effect. The overall vision was to create a deep space musical environment.
Some of the pieces are also being used by another very talented photographic artist, my friend German Herrera, at some of his current exhibitions. For more information about German, click here.
This is yet another unpublished body of material, which I will soon have available. Stay tuned for further developments! I welcome your feedback and comments. kit@kitwalker.com
